CDs Online are versions of the well known learning packages from Durham ScITech Centre, now known as ITSS. (Information and Technical Support Service). ITSS is the ICT support service provided by Durham County Council Education Department. Journeys into History, Cromwell the Firefighter and Visions of the Past are available on line through CNET, Durham's curriculum intranet. All three packages share common formats in
The packages are available to schools and other establishments on CD so that they can be used locally on school networks that would speed up the delivery of pages. Journeys into HistoryFour journeys into history that begin in the north east of England aimed at Key Stage 2 and 3 that feature many pictures and diagrams not usually available to the public.
Cromwell the FirefighterThe main storyline is about Cromwell a lion cub who signs up with Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Brigade. He takes part in 999 call outs, and leads you through making a plan to get out of your house or bedroom if there is a fire. This matches to the current Home Office campaign to Make a Plan - Get out alive. Each page has text that can be spoken at the appropriate level to help understanding. The daily life of a firefighter is also explored. A separate activity pack is available.
